A tour of the Maasai Mara usually includes game drives, cultural experiences, and opportunities to witness the rich biodiversity of the region. Depending on the length of the tour, activities can range from game drives and hot air balloon rides to visits to Maasai villages.
Day 1
Arrival and Transfer to Maasai Mara
Morning: Arrival in Nairobi. Meet your safari guide and transfer to Wilson Airport for a short flight to the Maasai Mara. Alternatively, embark on a scenic drive to the Maasai Mara (approximately 5-6 hours). Afternoon: Arrival and Check-In, enjoy a welcome drink and settle into your accommodations. Evening: First Game Drive: Look out for the Big Five: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2
Full-Day Game Viewing
Early morning wake-up call for a sunrise game drive. Witness the animals at their most active as the sun rises over the savannah. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Mid-Morning: Leisure and Optional Activities: Optional activities may include a visit to a nearby Maasai village to learn about Maasai culture and traditions. After lunch, embark on an afternoon game drive. Explore different areas of the reserve and spot various wildlife species. Enjoy a sundowner experience in the bush with drinks and snacks as you watch the sunset. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3
Hot Air Balloon Safari and More Game Drives
Early Morning: Hot Air Balloon Safari (Optional): For an unforgettable experience, opt for a hot air balloon safari at dawn. Float above the Maasai Mara and enjoy breathtaking views of the landscape and wildlife. Celebrate with a champagne breakfast in the bush after landing. Continue with a morning game drive if not participating in the balloon safari. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Afternoon: Game Drive: Head out for another afternoon game drive. Visit different parts of the reserve to maximize your wildlife sightings. Evening: Dinner and Cultural Experience: Return to the lodge for dinner. Enjoy a cultural performance by Maasai warriors, including traditional songs and dances.
Day 4
Final Game Drive and Departure
Early Morning: Final Game Drive: Take one last early morning game drive to capture any remaining wildlife sightings. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Late Morning: Check-Out and Transfer: Check out of the lodge and transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. Alternatively, drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon. Afternoon: Departure: Upon arrival in Nairobi, transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight.
